Talk to you soon

As the school year comes to an end, the Riverdale High School interns reflect on what they have accomplished in the past three months. The internship class started in March with one goal, to help and change the nonprofit organization DonorsResource.org, as well as promote leadership and work in our community. The nine Riverdale High School students each took on a different intern jobs in the organization. From graphic artist to social media, they took over these jobs as their own responsibility and made a difference. These interns have made many accomplishments in the past months. So far, they have utilized the social media, facebook, twitter, and a blog, to get out the word about DonorsResource.org, designed and launched whole new website which is simpler and easier to use, and made their own video about what they’re doing for the organization. With these accomplishments, they have made so much progress for this organization, but they’re not stopping here. They’re project will keep running as DonorsResource.org gets more and more popular.

Field trip to Albertina Kerr and Community WareHouse

Last week we got to tour the nonprofit Community WareHouse with Roz Babner. It was interesting to see how the organization runs and to see the different roles needed to meet our communities needs. It was also great to hear that Community WareHouse is a strong supporter of DonorResource.org and has sent a lot of traffic our way.

We also had the opportunity to visit Albertina Kerr and meet with Stephanie Bolson who shared with us their mission and how they achieve it. We learned about all their different programs and how much "stuff" they need to make the programs successful. She expressed how much DonorsResource.org has helped them and gave us some great constructive criticism that we will work on in the future.

Della Rae, Consultant and Founder of DonorsResource.org

Hello, My name is Della Rae, consultant for the Nonprofit Youth Leadership project and founder of DonorsResource.
The purpose of this project is for students to learn in a real-time environment.  Through plan mapping, goal setting, and key communication focused on specific outcomes they are experiencing an unparallelled opportunity.
My favorite moment so far, was when the team was drafting a new web-face design for our organization, different opinions and objectives were flying high.  After some time,  the interns stepped up to that age-old adage "The question is not who is right or wrong, rather how do our views fit together".  Their stated high-level mission is to make a difference in our community and this process proved that to be so.
The amount of progress achieved by the Groovy interns of Riverdale High School in under four weeks is mind boggling and I'm delighted to have a front row seat.

Lilly Wills, Graphic Intern

Hello friends! My name is Lily Wills, and I am one half of the graphic design duo here at DonorsResource. My mission is to redesign the web page to look sleek, professional, and user friendly. I’m not gonna lie, it looks pretty awesome so far. I am looking forward to finishing all the pages in the site, so that I can get them up for everyone to see. My goal is to make a website that people will remember and want to come back to.  When I’m not working on the website, I help my cohort with posters and fliers. I’m having a lot of fun working and collaborating with the team, not to mention this great cause!

Elliot Capek, Web Design Intern

Hey all,
I'm Elliott Capek, and I'm the coder for DonorsResource. I'm currently working with the graphics team to redesign the website. They're drawing everything up, and I'm converting it into website code and putting it on the server. I really love my job, and think it's cool that I can put my skills to use for something important. The whole team is doing really well, we're making great headway towards our various goals.

Ettalou King, Graphics Intern

Hi y'all. I'm Ettalou and I work as an intern in the graphic arts department at DonorsResource. I work mostly in print media while my fellow graphics intern, Lily, works more in the web aspect of things. We have been working to redesign and modernize the overall look of DonorsResource.org. I have been working on projects like fliers, posters, t shirts, letterheads and business cards. But really my job has been trying to get them to match each other and the brand but more importantly, who DonorsResource is and why we do what we do. I am really excited for my future work here at DonorsResource.

Kelsy West, Deputy Director Intern

Yeah, we’re teens.  So What?
In today’s world there is so much talk of problems: such as global warming, the recession, a diminishing source of clean water, and oil crisis.
The conversation about how to solve these problems takes place amongst adults. Youth are never involved in these discussions. Because, there’s a stigma around teenagers: we don’t care, we’re too lazy.
Well, we the students of Riverdale, disagree. We care. We care about the 300,000 people in our region that live in poverty. We care about the 10,000 people who are homeless every night in Portland. We care about our community.
And, more importantly than our passion, we’re taking action. We’re interns of a non-profit organization, DonorsResource.org, whose mission is to connect individual and corporate donors who want to give in-kind donations with nonprofit organizations that need them. Meet a Need. Donate Stuff. We’ve taken over this organization. We, the students, run the graphic design, marketing, social media, development, web development, and program coordination departments.
We see the great disparity between the people who don’t have enough “stuff” and the people who have too much stuff.
We believe that people want to give to those in need in our community.
We believe that when people have “stuff” like pots and pans, towels and furniture they will give them to people in need.
We believe that there is more than enough “stuff” to go around.
And the interns of Riverdale High School are committed to making this happen.

Isabel Jones, Marketing Intern

Hello, my name is Isabel Jones and I'm the Marketing/Public Relations intern for DonorsResource. My job is to raise awareness about this nonprofit as well as oversee everything going on and making sure the brand stays the same on everything we do. So far this has been a really fun job and it's really cool to see how everything goes together. We have started to get the word out about DonorsResource through the Riverdale community and we're about to start branching out to the Portland Metro area. I think this internship has been an amazing way to get hands on learning and really see how to run a company. I can't wait to see what else is in store for me and the rest of the interns. thanks for reading, have a fabulous day!

Maya Volk, Program Coordinator

Hey Everyone,
My name is Maya Volk and I am currently the Program Coordinator intern. I check the service email and compile data from the actual site to see how everything is running. I make reports from the data to give the rest of the interns feedback on how our work is paying off. I like this job because I get to check out what is happening with the site and see what kind of stuff is being donated. I also am working with Kelsey to write a grant and raise some funds. I am super excited about this whole project because it is such a great opportunity and it is something I'm passionate about!
